Part One of the KMRP Equation: The Child.

Children are drawn to mathematical concepts from a young age. Sorting, building with blocks, and size comparisons are natural starting points for mathematical learning. EMLI fosters the child’s natural curiosity to explore these concepts and more through read-alouds of math-centric, developmentally appropriate books, oral storytelling, and “math-play” activities. Through playful interactions, children learn to enjoy math while developing the fundamental early math skills necessary for success in kindergarten.

Research shows that…

Children from under-resourced communities often lack opportunities to develop emergent math skills. EMLI’s Kindergarten Math Readiness Program (KMRP) aims to have children see mathematics in the world around them, become comfortable with the language of mathematics from an early age, and find joy in the discovery of their own intrinsic nature to mathematize.
